The difference between being aggressive and being assertive

There is a fine line between being assertive and being aggressive. Assertiveness is the act of asking for our wants/needs to be met, while at the same time being considerate of others. On the other hand, aggression is based on the mentality winning. When someone acts aggressively they don’t ask, they take. It takes time to develop our skills in assertiveness. We need to be able to value, and identify what our needs and wants are before we are able to ask for them to be addressed. It is also important that we act fairly and with empathy. This article goes over ways to develop our assertiveness and learn techniques to help us communicate our needs. Being assertive, and how to develop assertiveness without being aggressive is a common topic of concern that comes up in my discussions with clients.
