Tips on how to find the therapist that is right for you

Not all therapists are the same! Just like everyone else, therapists have different attitudes, beliefs and characteristics. When searching for a therapist there may be some things that we want to consider about the therapists themselves, so we might better gage if they are a good fit for our needs. First, and maybe the most obvious, is the specialty of the therapist or the issues they focus on helping in their work.

Most, if not all therapists have an area, such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, abuse, etc. that they like to focus on. By narrowing their areas of specialty therapists can gain more skills to better able treat those specific needs. Another thing you may want to consider when looking for a therapist is their delivery. We all talk and explain things in different ways, we may be able to become more comfortable and comforted in therapy when our therapist talks in a way that we are able to understand easily.

Just like finding the right teacher for you, it is also important to find the right therapist!
